Compact Laminate

The most durable panel against water, impact and heavy use: compact laminate is the material of wet areas and high traffic.

What is it?

Compact laminate is a thick, self-supporting laminate sheet in which hundreds of paper layers are pressed with resin under high pressure and heat. It is the solid form of HPL that needs no substrate; it is extremely resistant to water and impact.

  • Self-supporting: Needs no separate panel; used on its own.
  • Waterproof: Ideal for wet areas and outdoor exposure.
  • Characteristic edge: Usually shows a black (or coloured) core texture.

Types & varieties

Type & surface

  • Interior grade: Heavy-use counters, partitions and panels.
  • Exterior grade (compact exterior): UV-resistant; façades and outdoor use.
  • Surface: Wood, solid colour, stone; matt and textured options.

Thickness range

Usually 6–12 mm; the thickness is chosen according to use (counter, partition, façade).

Technical properties

Use cases

The material for demanding conditions:

  • Restroom / washbasin partitions and counters
  • Heavily used service and prep counters
  • Outdoor façade and furniture panels (exterior grade)
  • Shelf and cabinet surfaces in damp areas
  • High-traffic store display units

Advantages & disadvantages

Advantages

  • Fully resistant to water and moisture — ideal for wet areas
  • Self-supporting, no extra substrate needed
  • High impact and scratch resistance
  • Hygienic, easy to clean, long-lasting

Points to consider

  • Heavier and more costly than standard laminate
  • Cutting/machining requires hard tooling
  • The core edge colour should be considered in the design

Care & cleaning

The non-porous surface is easily cleaned with a damp cloth and general cleaner and is suitable for disinfection. Apart from avoiding abrasive scouring pads, it needs no special care and keeps its form for years in wet areas.

How we apply it at Standchi

We machine compact laminate with CNC precision for wet areas, heavy-use counters and outdoor applications. We recommend this material for restroom, service and façade details where water and impact resistance are critical, and produce and install it from a single point.
