What is it?

Glass and mirror are materials that give a space transparency, reflection and depth. Safety-treated types (tempered, laminated) and decorative varieties (coloured, antique, sandblasted) are widely used in interior design.

  • Tempered glass: Strengthened by heat treatment; if broken, it shatters into small harmless pieces.
  • Laminated glass: A film between two panes; even if broken it holds together — safe.
  • Mirror: Standard, coloured (bronze/smoked/grey) and antique/aged varieties.

Use cases

At the many points where light and depth are needed:

  • Displays, showcases and product cabinets
  • Glass partitions, doors and railings
  • Back-bar mirrors and illuminated glass shelves
  • Decorative wall mirrors (depth for the space)
  • Sandblasted logos, wayfinding and privacy glass

Advantages & disadvantages

Advantages

  • Adds airiness, light and depth to a space
  • Safe use with tempered/laminated
  • Character with decorative mirror and sandblasting
  • Easy-to-clean, hygienic surface

Points to consider

  • Heavy; requires installation and handling planning
  • Untreated glass is fragile (tempered/laminated required)
  • Fingerprints and marks show; needs regular cleaning

Care & cleaning

Glass and mirror surfaces are wiped with glass cleaner and a microfibre cloth; liquid must be kept from seeping into the edge/silvered areas (it can blacken a mirror). Abrasive cleaners are not used.
